Reach Out To Asia team members met on Sunday, 13 May to "Walk the World" alongside other community members in Doha in support of a world without hunger. ROTA partnered in the Doha leg of this global campaign, organized by World Food Program as part of their "fight against hunger". Participants from Doha walked a 3km course along Doha's Corniche to raise awareness and demonstrate support, together with other groups walking in cities all over the world for the same cause.
Young and old united to march. They bore banners, flags, and picket signs bearing statements such as "Every 3.6 seconds someone dies of hunger. 75% of them are children," "400 million: the number of children in the world who go to bed hungry," and "What can you do with $34? Take a step against hunger."
World Food Program enables millions of children to go to school through their "school feeding program". Parents are more willing to send their children to school if they will be fed, therefore attendance rates are much higher among sponsored schools. Because malnutrition effects the brain, underfed children are not able to reach their academic potential. Thus, exam results and pass rates are consistently higher in schools that feed their students, as made possible by World Food Program.
